Biography

Prof. Amel is the Dean of the Deanship of Scientific Research and former (Dean College of Veterinary Medicine Sudan University of Science and Technology; Head Department of Pathology and Head of The Department of Clinical studies). She has more than 34 years clinical, academic, research and administrative experience. She supervised many Masters and PhD degree students in different disciplines: Pathology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry and Toxicology. She published more than 81 scientific papers and Editor- in- Chief of SUST Journal of Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences. Professor Amel earned her undergraduate degree in Veterinary Medicine from Cairo University, and worked as Veterinary Officer for 2 years at the Ministry of Animal Resources and Fisheries. She then started research as a post -graduate student. She completed Master training in the Department of Pathology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine University of Khartoum, Sudan. She then moved back to the Ministry to of Animal Resources and Fisheries and worked in most Departments of the Ministry as Practitioner in Khartoum Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Extension Department, Veterinary Medical Supply Department, Animal Production Department, and Regional Affairs Department and as Director of Undersecretary Executive Office. She started again research and completed Ph.D. training in 1995 in the Department of Pathology and the Department of Medicine, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Khartoum She then moved back again to the Ministry to of Animal Resources and Fisheries and worked as a Director of Training Administration. In 2001, she joined the College of Veterinary Medicine and Animal production, Sudan University of Science and Technology, as Assistant Professor. She shouldered the responsibility in teaching Veterinary Histology and Physiology courses to undergraduate. She was the Head of Clinical Studies Department for 4 years. She taught Veterinary Pathology, Clinical Diagnosis and Fish and Wildlife Diseases courses to under graduate. She also shouldered the responsibility of teaching Veterinary Surgical Pathology to post graduates of Master in Veterinary Surgery and she was the instructor/coordinator of this master Degree Program. She became an associate professor in 2003 and moved to the Department of Pathology, Parasitology and Microbiology and became Head of the Department in 2006. In 2008 she became a full Professor of Veterinary Medicine. She became Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Production in 2009. Same year she became the Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine till 2012. Her current position is Dean of Deanship of Scientific Research. Her research work covers the following aspects; Pathological studies and Toxicological effect of some toxic and medicinal /folkloric plants used in traditional medicine Investigations of mineral concentrations in livestock, poultry and plants; Studies of the development, diagnosis and treatment of hepatic and extrahepatic diseases in poultry and livestock with emp hasis on medicinal / toxic plants and the Effect of feed additives on growth and meat quality and chemical composition in small ruminants. She has research projects on nutritional diseases of small ruminants and skin diseases of one humped camel in Sudan. In these studies, clinical, pathological, biochemical, molecular biology, haematological, histopathological and histochemical techniques have been utilized. She had been the principal investigator of 5 research projects and now as co-researcher in three on going research projects. She has more than 81 scientific papers and she is the Editor- in- Chief of SUST Journal of Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences and a member of editorial board of many scientific journal in Sudan, regional and international journals and reviewer in most of them.
