Biography

Jela Webb is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Brighton Business School. She teaches and supervises at both undergraduate and post graduate levels. Her specialist area is in the field of Information and Knowledge Management. Jela is ACIB (Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers) qualified and spent 20+ years working for National Westminster Bank during which time she was sponsored to study for an MBA (awarded in1998). Leaving the Bank in 2000 to set up her own business, Azione Consulting, specializing in information and knowledge management, she also returned to University to study for a second Master’s degree, an MSc Information and Knowledge Management (awarded 2002). During 2001 Jela was invited to present on the topic of Knowledge Management to MBA students at the University of Brighton and this subsequently led to her formalising her relationship with the University as a part-time Lecturer. In 2004 she gained her CCTS (Certificate of Credit in Teaching Skills). In 2010 she completed a post-graduate module in Therapeutic Alliance Counselling Skills (2010) which supports her role as Personal Tutor to approximately 90 first year undergraduates. Jela has worked as a Visiting Lecturer at London Metropolitan University; Kent, Surrey and Sussex (KSS) Deanery and has also lectured regularly at Regent’s Business School, London. Jela is a reviewer for Palgrave Publishers and Pearson Publishing. Jela has typically enjoyed professional memberships of relevant associations i.e. CIB (Chartered Institute of Bankers), CMI (Chartered Management Institute) and is a current member of UFHRD (Universities Forum for Human Resource Development). She is also a founding member of the Information Management Leaders Group formed by CILIP (Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals). In a non-academic capacity, Jela works as a consultant in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors focusing mostly in the area of developing and implementing knowledge management strategies. She served as an Associate of Ashridge Business School participating in a consortium developing e-learning programmes and is the author of their publication ‘A Learning Guide to Knowledge Management’. She has also worked as an Associate for TFPL and Learnership Ltd. Jela’s key areas of interest are information literacy in the workplace and knowledge management in small and medium sized enterprises (SME’s).
