Many consider the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region as one of the most important emerging parts of the world economy in the 21st century. MENA is strategically vital as it produces the majority of the world’s oil. However, despite the region’s oil, most MENA countries score lower on Human Development Index (HDI) world ranking, with GDP, productivity and investment rates well below the global average. It is, therefore, becoming widely accepted that the dominant economic model of the region – based on the public sector, oil incomes and workers’ remittances – is not up to the challenges of modern globalisation and the needs of advanced knowledge-based societies.

Biography

I am a recognized expert on strategic planning, development cooperation and South-South and Triangular Cooperation. My experiences have been gained through continuous interactions with various UN specialised agencies and multilateral donors in both civil society roles as well as EU and public sector, culminating with my current position as the International consultant(Home-based) on South-South Cooperation for the Arab States with the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation. My technical skills and knowledge have been developed through a diverse range of experiences including international Non-Governmental organizations, UN, EU and governmental institutions. I have written various reports and concept notes for the UN, EU and Plan International. My professional career also includes poverty alleviation in pro-poor communities. Conceptual and technical analytical skills in Coordination, strategy and planning of development programme .
