Many consider the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region as one of the most important emerging parts of the world economy in the 21st century. MENA is strategically vital as it produces the majority of the world’s oil. However, despite the region’s oil, most MENA countries score lower on Human Development Index (HDI) world ranking, with GDP, productivity and investment rates well below the global average. It is, therefore, becoming widely accepted that the dominant economic model of the region – based on the public sector, oil incomes and workers’ remittances – is not up to the challenges of modern globalisation and the needs of advanced knowledge-based societies.

Biography
Assistant professor, Clinical nutrition department, faculty of applied medical sciences, king Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. She holds a PhD in food science and nutrition, Khartoum University in cooperation with Hannover University. Coordinator of evaluation and quality assurance program, Coordinator of undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum design, revision, and delivery, Chairperson of academic advising committee, Consultant of the of academic accreditation committee. Nahlaa has been awarded certificates for participation and attendance for health, community and educational missions. Invited speaker at many conferences and having published articles on food science, nutrition and dietetics. Her main interests are in nutritional genomic and complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) especially prophetic medicine. Her interests also lie in activation of modern information technology applications in educational methods. Professional experience includes teaching medical courses by using mind mapping, as she is Thinkbuzan Licensed Instructor (TLI) and TOT. She won many prizes including the excellence award from the president of King Abdulaziz University and the best scientific paper about using mind mapping in medical education in WASD 2015-Brighton.
