Many consider the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region as one of the most important emerging parts of the world economy in the 21st century. MENA is strategically vital as it produces the majority of the world’s oil. However, despite the region’s oil, most MENA countries score lower on Human Development Index (HDI) world ranking, with GDP, productivity and investment rates well below the global average. It is, therefore, becoming widely accepted that the dominant economic model of the region – based on the public sector, oil incomes and workers’ remittances – is not up to the challenges of modern globalisation and the needs of advanced knowledge-based societies.

Biography

Prof. Salwa M.A. Dogheim is an Emeritus Professor at Central Agricultural Pesticides Laboratory, Agricultural Research Centre. She Egyptian chemist, scientist, residue analyst. Recipient Certified, Ministry of Agriculture of Egypt, Food and Agriculture Organization, 1998. She is a Member of Consumer Protection Society, Cairo, 1995—2004; Member of Finnish Chemical Society (honorary; Helsinki 1995—2004). Prof. Salwa M.A. Dogheim Achievements include first to Establishing and getting accreditation to the Central Lab of Residue Analysis of Pesticides and Heavy Metals in Food. Development of the Pesticide Registration system in the country. Research in Publishing 8 scientific papers in the Journal of the Association of the Official Analytical Chemists. Prof. Salwa M.A. Dogheim Research in Setting the first Monitoring Program for Pesticides in Food in Egypt and in Solving Food Contamination Problems In Domestic And Exported Agriculture Products. She Published 50 scientific papers in national and international Journals and conferences.
