MEKEI undertakes research on the key factors that are influencing innovation, change and knowledge management in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA)  region, that are essential for achieving sustainable competitiveness. We aim to carry out research on the following five core themes of vital importance to the region:

  • Transforming the oil-based economy to a diverse knowledge-intensive economy based on innovation: learning from best practices, lessons from other nations as well as future policies in the region.
  • Managing change and innovation in business: strategic innovation models, managing change, strategies for the future, international lessons.
  • Building a sustainable environmental future: environmental audit; best practices in the region; policies for business and government; lessons from abroad.
  • Human Resources for the knowledge economy: assessing current transformation practices; identifying best practice examples; building local competences in innovation and leadership.
  • Evidence based policy and business development; capability building in policy making and in business, assessing business leadership in the region; creating the new generation of Middle Eastern business leaders.

MEKEI provides advisory services and consultancy support for major knowledge-based projects across the MENA region. Our consultants led the implementation of the first of its kind in the MENA region Knowledge Management Framework (KMF) which focuses on empowering employees, enabling them to improve the quality and efficiency of services provided to residents. The KMF aims to enable employees to acquire and share information and international best practices, create creative and up-to-date methods for communication, exchange of knowledge and experiences, promote their functional performance, increase their productivity and enhance provided services.

Smart KM Model: An Integrated Knowledge Management Framework for Organizational ExcellenceOur SMART KM Model launched in 2014 provides an integrated KMF to help organisations achieve excellence and help ensures KM becomes part of organizational culture. Drawing on our best research, SMART KM provides a roadmap and clear process of managing knowledge within organizations including the creation, acquisition, transfer and use of knowledge, both within and between organizations. Our model also offers insight into KM processes; the challenges in introducing effective KM regime, and offers the SMART KM Model as a tool to overcome challenges.
